Hamilton Elementary Fifth Grade Students Visit the Feiro Marine CenterHamilton Elementary fifth graders have been studying about storm water and waste water treatment.  On November 29, 2017 two engineers from the city of Port Angeles Public Works department took time to share information about city infrastructure.  The students used response devices to gauge their understanding and continue the discussion process.  This demonstrates an opportunity for students to connect to the real world, and learn about problem solving.  The students also learned what it would take to be a Civil Engineering.

“We are making claims about the importance of clean water and then backing up our statements with facts from sources that we have researched and read,” said George Kheriaty, teacher.

“We are also launching a life science unit to reinforce the importance of clean water by raising brine shrimp in the classroom,” continued Kheriaty.  “These zooplankton will be placed into the Fiero Marine Life Center tanks as a food source during a class field trip on December 13.”

“We are teaching life cycle and the ocean food chain.”
