Kindergarten Registration Begins March 19

Port Angeles School District kindergarten registration for the 2018-19 school year begins March 19, 2018. A child must be five (5) years of age prior to September 1, 2018 to be eligible to attend kindergarten in fall 2018.

Here is a list of what you will need to bring to your child’s school office to register for kindergarten:

  • Parents/guardians must show a legal document showing the student’s legal last name.
  • Bring a Birth Certificate (copy or original) to your student’s school office. If you do not have this, you can bring immigration papers or adoption papers.

Bring the student’s immunization records. You may register prior to completing immunization. However, children may not begin school until they have completed the immunization requirements. Your doctor or the Health Department can assist you with immunization information.

To attend public school in Washington State, each child must have a signed Certificate of Immunization Status form (CIS) showing proof of one of the following:

  • All immunizations have been done according to State requirements (month, day and year are required for all vaccines)
  • Immunizations are in the process of being completed
  • A medical exemption (with health care provider signature)
  • Personal or religious exemption (with health care provider signature)
  • Kindergarten immunization requirements include the following:
  1. Hepatitis B - Three doses (properly spaced)
  2. DTaP/DT - Four to five doses (last one MUST be on or after the fourth birthday)
  3. Polio - Four doses IF all were given before the fourth birthday; or three doses IF the last dose was given on or after the fourth birthday
  4. MMR - Two doses: first dose must be given on or after the first birthday; second dose must be given at least 28 days after first dose.
  5. Varicella (chickenpox) - Two doses – must be given on or after the first birthday; second dose must be given three months after the first shot.

Please note: Parent-reported history of varicella (chickenpox) disease is not accepted. What is acceptable is a signed note from the health care provider stating the child had chickenpox (with month, day, and year), or date of a blood test showing the child had chickenpox, or a signed exemption based on medical, religious or personal reason (all require signature of physician explaining pro/cons. Only exception: Do not believe in medical intervention). If a parent is unsure about the child’s chickenpox history, the child should be referred to their health care provider to get the vaccine.

Please make sure your child has received all the required vaccines before the first day of school.

School bus routes are updated each August. Schedules will be available at school offices and on the District website by late August. All kindergarten children wear a name tag with bus information the first two weeks of school. The bus tag is provided by the school.
