Hamilton Named 2020 Exemplary High Performing School

Port Angeles, WA –The U.S. Secretary of Education recently recognized Hamilton Elementary School in Port Angeles School District as an Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School for 2020. Hamilton is only one of four schools from Washington (among 367 nationally) to be recognized in 2020. This is the third time in four years that Hamilton has received national recognition. In 2018 Hamilton was the recipient of the ASCD Vision in Action: The Whole Child Award in Boston. Last February, Hamilton was the recipient of the 2019-2020 Title I, Part A national ESEA Distinguished School Award: Exceptional Student Performance and Academic Growth for Two or More Consecutive Years. Prior to receiving national recognition, Hamilton was the recipient of the 2015 Washington Achievement Award high Progress and the 2017 WSASCD Washing State Whole Child Award.

This recognition for Hamilton is based on their overall academic performance. As an Exemplary High Performing School, Hamilton is among the state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

Gary Pringle is in his tenth year at Hamilton as its principal. Pringle shared, “This is an amazing honor and the result of years of hard work at Hamilton. I salute the dedication of Hamilton to their students and families, the long hours and hard work by staff, families and volunteers and a clear vision of a commitment to excellence.”

When asked about Hamilton’s commitment to excellence, termed “the Hamilton Way,” Pringle explained, “The Hamilton vision is to inspire and empower students, their families, and staff to take on the challenging and exciting journey to achieve academic excellence. We do this by creating learning and working environments where high performance, kindness, self-responsibility, and playfulness are the expectations.”

Assistant Superintendent Michelle Olsen echoed Pringle’s sentiments, stating “This is a huge honor for Hamilton staff, students, and families. We thank Principal Pringle for his leadership that supports the great teaching and learning at Hamilton.”

The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually Nov. 12 and 13.
